India Optel Limited (IOL), a Mini Ratna Category-I Defence PSU under the Department of Defence Production, has launched its indigenous ‘GARUD’ High-Resolution Binoculars for the civilian market.
Developed and manufactured by Ordnance Factory, Dehradun, a unit of IOL, the binoculars reflect the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, combining indigenous design with IOL’s decades-long expertise in precision optical manufacturing.
GARUD offers 8x magnification and a 7.6-degree field of view, along with ±5 diopter adjustment, soft-touch eyecups and an ergonomic grip. Its weather-resistant construction is designed for use in varied outdoor conditions. Weighing around 610 grams, the binoculars are suitable for applications including birdwatching, wildlife observation, nature exploration, travel, sports, forestry, marine activities and security-related use.
The launch marks IOL’s entry into the civilian optics market and brings its defence-grade optical expertise to a wider consumer base. The binocular platform has previously served the Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces in demanding operational environments.
