Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) reported a record consolidated net profit of Rs 10,176 crore in FY 2025-26, up from Rs 6,820 crore a year earlier, while their total business crossed Rs 13.5 lakh crore.

The performance was reviewed at a meeting chaired by the Secretary, Department of Financial Services, with representatives from NABARD, RBI, SIDBI, sponsor banks and all 28 RRBs.

Asset quality also improved, with gross non-performing assets (GNPA) falling to an all-time low of 5.3% and net NPA declining to 2.1%. The credit-deposit ratio rose to a record 75.2% during the year.

RRBs, which operate through 22,273 branches across 26 states and three Union Territories, also opened more than 54.98 lakh new PM Jan Dhan accounts in FY26, strengthening their role in financial inclusion.

The DFS Secretary urged RRBs to accelerate digital banking adoption, strengthen IT infrastructure and expand credit access in rural and underserved areas.
