The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a Rs 810.79 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) along with associated equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The contract, signed on September 23, 2026, falls under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and is aimed at strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.
SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision-guided glide bomb developed indigenously by DRDO. It can be deployed from platforms including the Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30 MKI, and is designed to engage enemy airfields from long stand-off ranges.
The system will have around 60% indigenous content, with several key subsystems, including the Initial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier, also being indigenised.
Deliveries are scheduled to take place during FY28 and FY29. The induction of SAT-SAAW is expected to enhance the IAF’s operational capabilities and support the country’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat defence manufacturing initiative.
