Union Jal Shakti Minister launches Punah Bharan Mobile Application

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti has launched the Punah Bharan Mobile Application, developed by BISAG-N in collaboration with the National Water Mission (NWM) under the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. The application aims to facilitate scientific planning for groundwater recharge using geospatial technology.

The mobile application enables users to identify potential artificial groundwater recharge zones within a radial distance of up to 3 km and explore suitable recharge structures based on local conditions.

The accompanying web portal provides access to village-level Artificial Recharge Structure (ARS) zonation maps, Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and thematic layers to support informed decision-making and sustainable groundwater management.

The platform uses geospatial datasets, including rainfall, groundwater levels, groundwater yield, slope and drainage patterns, to identify potential recharge areas and facilitate the planning of appropriate groundwater recharge interventions.

The Punah Bharan initiative is expected to strengthen scientific groundwater recharge planning and promote sustainable water resource management through the effective use of geospatial technology.
