Weak gross domestic product (GDP) print for September quarter, and dip in auto sales figures after festive season weighed on investor sentiment on Monday, as market players chose to remain on the sidelines in the lacklustre trade. Index heavyweights like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries, which ended 4 per cent and 2 per cent higher, respectively, however, provided some support to an otherwise weak market.
All eyes will now be on RBI monetary policy for economic revival measures going forward. On the global front, investors are eagerly awaiting a positive outcome of the US-China trade negotiations which could strengthen the rally in the global markets.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 40802.17 up by 8.36 points or by 0.02 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12048.2 down by 7.85 points or by 0.07 %.
Sensex touched intraday high of 41093.99 and intraday low of 40707.63 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12137.15 and intraday low of 12023.7
