Sensex rises over 150 pts; Nifty above 12,200

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Friday driven by gains in HDFC twins, ICICI Bank and Infosys amid strong foreign fund inflow.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 1,061.39 crore, while domestic institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 960.48 crore on Thursday, data available with stock exchanges showed.

According to traders, domestic equities advanced tracking significant foreign fund inflow ahead of the release of wholesale inflation data.

Globally, concerns over rising cases of coronavirus patients kept investors on edge, they said.

Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul were trading on a positive note, while those in Tokyo slipped in the red.

At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 41637.02 up by 177.23 points or by 0.43 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12233.25 up by 58.6 points or by 0.48 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 41702.36 and intraday low of 41510.19 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12246.7 and intraday low of 12190.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 4507.00,+1.22%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1895.00,+1.12%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3170.00,+1.10%), State Bank of India (Rs. 331.00,+1.08%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 422.90,+0.92%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1218.00,-0.99%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 104.85,-0.47%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 114.85,-0.22%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1473.50,-0.03%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 211.90,-0.02%), among others.

ETECk index was at 8235.92 up by 53.82 points or by 0.66%. Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 4.98,+11.16%), Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 74.25,+3.92%), MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 963.45,+2.98%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 117.80,+1.60%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 240.85,+1.52%),.

Power index was at 1894.95 down by -0.64 points or by -0.03%. Kalpataru Power Transmissions Ltd. (Rs. 386.00,-1.96%), Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 20.75,-0.48%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 1266.00,-0.27%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 114.85,-0.22%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 55.20,-0.09%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1619 , shares advanced were 954 while 602 shares declined and 63 were unchanged.
