Post-Session: Sensex ends at 28,536; Nifty above 8300

Benchmark indices zoomed up to 7 per cent on Wednesday to post their biggest one-day gain in terms of percentage as investor sentiment got a boost by gains in global markets amid reports that the US officials have reached a deal on a $2 trillion package to fight economic fallout from coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Further, hopes of domestic stimulus also helped improve sentiment.

Other major contributors to the index's gain were HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, and Maruti. On the downside, four stocks - IndusInd Bank, ONGC, ITC, and Bajaj Auto ended in the red.

The 30-share benchmark index was trading at 28535.78 up by 1861.75 points or by 6.98 % and then NSE Nifty was at 8317.85 up by 516.8 points or by 6.62 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 28790.19 and intraday low of 26359.91 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8376.75 and intraday low of 7714.75

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1081.25,+14.65%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1294.00,+12.65%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5034.20,+12.23%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 855.55,+11.77%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1643.55,+9.44%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 301.20,-3.57%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 61.50,-1.60%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 147.35,-1.41%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 1923.00,-0.55%), among others.

Among the sectors, Bankex index was at 21321.71 up by 1691.39 points or by 8.62%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1294.00,+12.65%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 855.55,+11.77%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 326.90,+7.83%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 317.15,+6.93%), City Union Bank Ltd. (Rs. 135.00,+4.94%),.

On the flip side, CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 716.00,-1.97%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 8.10,-1.22%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 479.00,-0.04%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2542 , shares advanced were 1275 while 1085 shares declined and 182 were unchanged.
