Sensex, Nifty trim losses ahead of RBI press meet

Indian markets erased the entire opening losses on Friday ahead of the 10 AM press conference by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das.

The trends among Nifty sectoral indices was mixed. Nifty PSU Bank index, up 1.8 per cent, gained the most.

At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 30951.92 up by 19.02 points or by 0.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 9106.55 up by 0.3 points or by 0 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 31005.19 and intraday low of 30670.54 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9106.75 and intraday low of 9018.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 3642.35,+2.01%), State Bank of India (Rs. 154.75,+1.84%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 682.00,+1.49%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 527.20,+1.40%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1454.40,+1.00%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 185.90,-1.59%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 279.75,-1.36%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 156.70,-1.35%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 527.65,-1.33%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 89.60,-0.83%), among others.

IT index was at 16465.01 up by 84.67 points or by 0.52%. MosChip Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 8.66,+4.97%), Cerebra Integrated Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 26.65,+4.92%), Subex Ltd. (Rs. 6.20,+4.91%), Rolta India Ltd. (Rs. 5.18,+4.44%), NIIT Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1493.20,+3.52%),.

On the flip side, Metal index was at 6248.36 down by -69.45 points or by -1.1%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 125.30,-3.28%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 95.80,-2.24%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 279.30,-1.52%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 167.85,-1.15%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 168.00,-0.74%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1433 , shares advanced were 812 while 541 shares declined and 80 were unchanged.
