Sensex, Nifty flat; HCL, SBI top gainers

Benchmark indices are trading flat amid mixed global cues. The buying seen in the IT and pharma stocks, while energy and infra stocks are under pressure.

Gold rose on Friday en route to its best month in more than four years as the dollar slid further after dismal US data added to doubts about a swift recovery from the pandemic-induced economic slump, driving investors towards the safe-haven metal.

Torrent Pharma share price jumped over 7 percent on July 31, a day after the company came out with its June quarter numbers.

The pharmaceutical company reported a 48.61 percent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 321 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2020, mainly on account of robust sales in the Indian market. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 216 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal.

Meanwhile, Indian rupee gained in the early trade on July 31. It opened 11 paise higher at 74.74 per dollar against Thursday's close of 74.85.

At 10:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 37760.9 up by 24.83 points or by 0.07 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11111.3 up by 9.15 points or by 0.08 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 37897.78 and intraday low of 37537.8 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11150.4 and intraday low of 11049.2

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 710.30,+2.19%), State Bank of India (Rs. 189.95,+1.82%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2319.00,+1.80%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 978.45,+1.73%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1769.60,+1.52%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2075.40,-1.58%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1035.00,-1.47%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1786.00,-1.38%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2678.05,-0.96%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1378.95,-0.66%), among others.

Among the sectors, TECk index was at 8937.86 up by 134.2 points or by 1.52%. Tata Communications Ltd. (Rs. 759.80,+5.00%), Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 8.39,+4.74%), IndiaMART InterMESH Ltd. (Rs. 2678.40,+2.99%), Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 395.15,+2.37%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 710.30,+2.19%),.

CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 482.00,-1.25%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 2102.40,-0.86%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 457.70,-0.29%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 5335.50,-0.16%), Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 842.50,-0.03%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2315 , shares advanced were 1014 while 1192 shares declined and 109 were unchanged.
