Sensex, Nifty in green; bank, IT stocks take charge

Equity benchmark continued to trade in green led by buying mainly in banking and IT counters.

Meanwhile, Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 73.43 per dollar on against previous close of 73.38, amid buying seen in the domestic equity market.

At 10:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 39908.11 up by 179.7 points or by 0.45 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11732.05 up by 51.7 points or by 0.44 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 40125.71 and intraday low of 39699.42 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11784.1 and intraday low of 11667.85

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 380.50,+1.81%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1328.90,+1.52%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 1231.55,+1.50%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 606.35,+1.36%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3064.25,+1.27%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 829.35,-3.50%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 15418.45,-1.12%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2074.45,-0.72%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 164.10,-0.58%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 490.10,-0.06%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 7987.53 up by 74.91 points or by 0.95%. Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 380.50,+1.81%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 210.45,+1.59%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 295.65,+1.48%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 81.75,+1.24%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 96.05,+1.11%),.

On the flip side, CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. Orient Electric Ltd. (Rs. 191.10,-0.70%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 5692.95,-0.64%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 280.00,-0.36%), Sheela Foam Ltd. (Rs. 1296.05,-0.12%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 286.65,-0.05%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2287 , shares advanced were 1148 while 985 shares declined and 154 were unchanged.
