Sensex down 156 points; Nifty above 14,500

Domestic bourses continued to trade lower during the morning deals led by heavy selling in index-heavyweights Infosys, HCL Tech and Asian Paints.

According to traders, profit-booking at higher levels is keeping benchmark indices volatile.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,879.06 crore on Wednesday, as per exchange data.

On the earnings front, Infosys on Wednesday posted a 16.6 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 5,197 crore for the December 2020 quarter, and increased its revenue growth guidance for FY21 to 4.5-5 per cent on the back of large project wins and strong deal pipeline.

At 10:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 49335.64 down by -156.68 points or by -0.32 % and then NSE Nifty was at 14507.75 down by -57.1 points or by -0.39 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 49487.86 and intraday low of 49182.37 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 14562.8 and intraday low of 14471.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 975.95,+3.52%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 214.05,+1.33%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 8888.35,+1.10%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1960.35,+1.10%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1366.35,+1.06%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1019.25,-3.43%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1343.95,-3.15%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1047.60,-1.96%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2663.00,-1.53%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 5575.30,-1.37%), among others.

Among the sectors, CGS index was at 19841.49 up by 195.96 points or by 1%. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 1009.25,+9.59%), Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 5233.70,+3.16%), V-Guard Industries Ltd. (Rs. 221.50,+2.78%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 136.95,+2.32%), Grindwell Norton Ltd. (Rs. 745.75,+1.50%),.

TECk index was at 12093.1 down by -222.33 points or by -1.81%. HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1019.25,-3.43%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 443.80,-3.26%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1343.95,-3.15%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 183.85,-2.00%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1047.60,-1.96%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2738 , shares advanced were 1160 while 1419 shares declined and 159 were unchanged.
