Equity benchmark Sensex gave up early gains and tumbled 283 points on Wednesday following losses in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, HDFC and ICICI Bank.
Adani Ports, Wipro, JSW Steel, Divis Labs and L&T were among major losers, while Maruti Suzuki, Titan Company, Bajaj Finserv, ONGC and M&M were among major gainers.
Meanwhile, Indian rupee ended marginally higher at 74.28 per dollar, amid volatile trade in the domestic equity market. Rupee opened 10 paise higher at 74.26 per dollar versus previous close of 74.36 and traded in the range of 74.16-74-39.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 52306.08 down by -282.63 points or by -0.54 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15686.95 down by -85.8 points or by -0.54 %.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1736.80,-1.32%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1479.80,-1.29%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1099.80,-1.23%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3262.10,-1.17%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 732.40,-0.97%), among others.
