Post-Session: Sensex drops 283 pts; Nifty ends below 15,700

Equity benchmark Sensex gave up early gains and tumbled 283 points on Wednesday following losses in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, HDFC and ICICI Bank.

Adani Ports, Wipro, JSW Steel, Divis Labs and L&T were among major losers, while Maruti Suzuki, Titan Company, Bajaj Finserv, ONGC and M&M were among major gainers.

Meanwhile, Indian rupee ended marginally higher at 74.28 per dollar, amid volatile trade in the domestic equity market. Rupee opened 10 paise higher at 74.26 per dollar versus previous close of 74.36 and traded in the range of 74.16-74-39.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 52306.08 down by -282.63 points or by -0.54 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15686.95 down by -85.8 points or by -0.54 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 52912.35 and intraday low of 52264.12 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 15862.95 and intraday low of 15673.95

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7432.95,+2.33%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 1783.00,+1.49%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 12280.80,+1.22%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 781.90,+0.84%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 6903.70,+0.69%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1736.80,-1.32%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1479.80,-1.29%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1099.80,-1.23%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3262.10,-1.17%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 732.40,-0.97%), among others.

Among the sectors, CDS index was at 35995.04 up by 295.47 points or by 0.83%. Amber Enterprises India Ltd. (Rs. 2923.00,+5.14%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 1040.80,+1.96%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 1783.00,+1.49%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1035.05,+1.43%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 587.10,+0.54%),.

Oil&Gas index was at 16975.03 down by -208.59 points or by -1.21%. Adani Total Gas Ltd. (Rs. 1317.70,-5.00%), Gujarat Gas Ltd. (Rs. 652.70,-2.96%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 518.70,-1.78%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 153.55,-1.16%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 300.25,-1.10%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3648 , shares advanced were 1663 while 1815 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
